I-pod lovers cover your eyes. I-pod haters (or at least neutrals) continue reading, as we reveal two new portable multimedia players from the Insignia range. Despite entering into a war zone with the I-pod, Zune and such like, the Insignia range does hold its own and looks incredibly stylish at first glance.

The latest two models which have surfaced are the Sport and Pilot, perhaps an attempt to associate the players with a cool factor. Anyway, both players share some common attributes such as the highly respectable 25 hour battery life, FM tuner, Bluetooth compatibility and slots for additional memory cards.

Okay, so moving onto how each model differs. The Pilot model comes in two versions, a 2GB and a 4GB version. The player facilitates a 2.4" TFT screen and supports an array of the leading formats within the industry including MP3, WMA, and WMV. The Pilot also supports both MPEG-4 and WMV for playing video files.

The Sport on the other hand, includes a smaller screen at 1.7", whilst supporting half the audio formats compared to the Pilot. The Sport is also limited to 15 frames per second compared to the 30 frames per second achievable on the Pilot.

These differences are reflected in the cost as the Insignia Sport retails at - $99 (2GB) and $119 (4GB). The more powerful Insignia Pilot retails at $139 (2GB) and $189 (4GB), which is more than worth the additional cost.

All in all, a very stylish player yet will undoubtedly find life difficult among the larger companies, although in terms of performance and looks shouldn't face such problems.
